Change of Procedure when Ordering Medication

Posted on:

PRESCRIPTION REORDERING

From 31st March 2025 we will no longer be accepting repeat prescription requests via telephone or in person at our reception desk. This is in order to reduce telephone call volumes and queues in the reception area.

Why is it changing?

Ordering your own prescriptions puts you in control. By only ordering medicines you need, you can help to reduce waste and save money that can be spent on other NHS services. Plus, it is quicker and easier to sort out any problems or get an answer to any queries because you’re dealing directly with your GP practice. Ordering medicines is even easier through the NHS App, where you can also track your requests.

What happens next?

From the 31st March 2025, it is your responsibility to order your prescriptions at least 2 working days before they are due. It is best to order your repeat prescription seven days in advance, don’t wait until you are just about to run out!

HOW TO ORDER YOUR MEDICATION:

  • NHS app where you can order and track your requests – This is by far the quickest way to order your medication
  • Using the online triage tool during our opening hours
  • Placing your completed repeat slip in one of the post boxes in the reception area (both at Kingsbury and Hurley surgery)
  • Calling the practice
  • Going to the reception desk

Ordering Prescriptions Online

Ordering online is the safest and easiest way to order your regular medicines and you can do this via the NHS App.

The NHS App allows you to order your repeat prescriptions quickly and easily online, as well as access a range of NHS services such as booking and managing appointments, viewing your GP health record and finding your NHS number.

The NHS app can be downloaded for free to your mobile phone via the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can find out more about the app at www.nhs.uk/nhs-app. Alternatively, you can set up an NHS account and log in at https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/account/ if you do not have a smartphone, or would prefer not to download an app.
